Gemma es una actriz británica nacida en enero de 1986 en Gravesend, Inglaterra, es hija de Barry Arterton, un soldador;  y de Sally Heap, una limpiadora, tiene una hermana menor llamada, Hannah Arterton. Su abuela Helen Sarfas murió asesinada en su hogar en Kent, apuñalada en el pecho el 8 de enero del 2010.
En el 2007 se graduó de la prestigiosa escuela Royal Academy of Dramatic Art “RADA”.

Vida personal

En junio del 2008 comenzó a salir con el doble Eduardo Ivan Munoz, la pareja se conoció en el set de la película del Prince of Persia, sin embargo la relación terminó en julio del 2009. En marzo del 2009 Gemma comenzó a salir con el gerente de moda Raúl Páez, la pareja se casó el 6 de junio del 2010 en Zuheros, España.2

Carrera

Al margen de sus trabajos teatrales y cinematográficos, en televisión Gemma ha aparecido en series como “Lost in Austen” y “Tess of the D’Urbevilles”.  Sus papeles más destacados han sido en películas como St Trinian’s, la entrega de James Bond Quantum of Solace, Furia de titanes, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,Hansel y Gretel: cazadores de brujas y Tamara Drewe.

Gemma was born and raised in Gravesend, Kent, UK. She was born with extra fingers, which affects one child in a thousand. Gemma had surgery to correct this condition, known as polydactyly.

Her parents divorced when she was age 5, and so Gemma lived with her younger sister and her mother. Her father is a welder and her mother a cleaner. They encouraged their children to explore their creative abilities. Gemma’s sister, Hannah, liked to sing, whereas Gemma chose acting.

During her teenage years, she was part of the Masquerade and Miskin theater companies, appearing in productions of The Massacre of Civitella and Guiding Star. In 2004, she won an award for Best Supporting Actress, which helped her to win a grant to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).

Whilst studying at RADA, she landed her first professional role in Capturing Mary (2007) (TV), directed by Stephen Poliakoff and starring Maggie Smith. Gemma graduated from RADA in 2007 and won her first film role in Supercañeras – El internado puede ser una fiesta (2007). Her breakthrough role came in 2008, when she appeared in the James Bond film 007: Quantum of Solace (2008). In 2009, she was the winner of Empire’s Best Newcomer Award.
